Intervention/Therapy – We offer multiple therapy services, including behavioral parent training, individual therapy, and parent-assisted group interventions.
When children are displaying challenging behaviors at home, behavioral parent training can be a very effective intervention. In fact, some research shows that for children under the age of 10, parent support is more effective than individual therapy for the child. Behavioral parent training involves teaching parents specific strategies, which are grounded in behavioral psychology, so that they have more successful tools to manage behavior on a day-to-day basis. We have lots of experience working with parents of children with autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, attentional challenges, and learning disabilities. Sessions are held with the parent(s) only, though it may be appropriate on occasion for us to meet your child. Services are available in-person or via telehealth. Please contact us if you would like to discuss whether or not we may be a good fit for your family!
We enjoy working with school-aged children who are in need of some additional support managing the stress of challenging school transitions, peer relationships, family conflict, worries, depressive symptoms, and/or trauma. We are also happy to work with students who have recently received a new diagnosis (e.g., learning disabilities, attentional disorders) and require some support with understanding their neuropsychological profile. Our goal is to provide meaningful tools and strategies to children and adolescents, so that they feel better equipped to tackle life’s challenges independently. Teletherapy is available, but is not appropriate for all clients, so decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Please know that we are often not the best fit for treatment-resistant children and adolescents, and that we have the most success with those that are open to the therapeutic process. Moreover, for those that are facing chronic psychiatric disorders, addiction, and/or eating disorders, we typically refer to other specialists. For individual therapy, we feel most confident and competent in supporting children over the age of 10.
We have lots of experience with running parent-assisted intervention groups, where children and parents work together to learn strategies to improve social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This approach blends the benefits of parent training and individual support, and groups are structured with both components offered simultaneously to increase accessibility for families. As new groups are scheduled, they will be listed on our Event Calendar here. We will also make announcements through our practice newsletter; if you wish to remain updated on new services and other practice information, please sign up for Practice Updates here.
