Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

SPACE is a parent-based treatment program that provides caregivers with an opportunity to learn skills for supporting anxious youth. It was developed by Dr. Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center and has been tested in randomized controlled trials. The SPACE program is a good fit for parents of children struggling with separation anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, specific phobias, panic, selective mutism, and/or OCD. The SPACE website provides information about the approach, links to relevant research studies, some resources for parents, and a searchable database of SPACE-certified providers. Note: KPS is not affiliated with SPACE, but we have reviewed some of the relevant research literature and feel it may be a valuable resource for many of the families we work with.
